Dreamcast Emulation Comes to PS Vita and PS TV with flycast-vita

Earlier this year, there were plans put into motion by @Rinnegatamante to bring Dreamcast emulation to the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV. Nowadays, the name Rinnegatamante should synonymous with Vita ports, as he is responsible for multiple major ports, all which come with a high level of polish. You will have to look no further than the work he and The FlOw have performed in bringing Grand Theft Auto III natively to the scene, and all the advancements that have been made since the initial release. Or, watch as the continually evolving Daedalus X64 (Nintendo 64 emulator) make leaps and bounds in allowing us to enjoy all of our favorite N64 games once again. Simply put, take a look at our Vita Homebrew section of the forum to see all the hard work and amazing releases Rinnegatamante has been providing for us.

flycast-vita is no different, and is bound to become another one of everybody’s favorite homebrews as time goes on. That being said, at the current time, in it’s current form, flycast-vita is still somewhat just a proof-of-concept. I say that not to be-little the hard work of Rinnegatamante and flyinghead, but to let our users know not to expect to be able to install flycast-vita and immediately start replaying their entire Dreamcast library. Like any emulator, there are going to be games that play better than other, games that play perfectly, and games that flat-out just will not play at all. But if the huge hurdles Rinnegatamante has passed already are any indication of the future of this project, we can expect amazing things in the future with flycast-vita.

NOTE: When installing the emulator, BE SURE to set gl1 as video driver in RetroArch frontend. Basically, first install the vpk, then launch it and set gl1 as video driver. Then close it from Close Retroarch option and then launch it again. You’ll also need libshacccg.suprx to use this emulator. If you didn’t already extract it, a comprehensive guide can be found here: https://samilops2.gitbook.io/vita-troubleshooting-guide/shader-compiler/extract-libshacccg.suprx
I also strongly recommend to disable V-Sync for best performances.
