PS5 Release: Homebrew Loader by John Tornblom (chepgameps4.com)
Releases for the PS5 keep coming to the scene and it’s a bit hard to catch up. Following Sleirsgoevy‘s breakthrough with PS4 FPKG support, Developer John Tornblom has released a Homebrew BigApp Loader for the PS5. The Homebrew Loader is confirmed working on Firmwares 3.21 and 4.50, but is still a work in progress.
Packaged apps on the PS5 are divided in several categories, namely SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_BIG_APP, SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_MINI_APP, SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_INVALID, SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_DAEMON, SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_CDLG,SCE_LNC_APP_TYPE_SHELL_APP. “Big App” and “Mini App” in particular are
“Homebrew” apps on the PS5 are categorized as “Big Apps”, which is why you’ll see that name once in a while on the scene.
Download and use
As a reminder, you need a hacked PS5 in order to run this.
The HB Loader is an ELF, it should theoretically work on either the Webkit or BD-JB versions of the PS5 Exploit.
For best results, you should get the sources and compile them yourself:
Alternatively, there is a prebuilt version courtesy of Pi Chan on the PS5 discord Server. You can get it here
Load the “Homebrew Loader” ELF as usual, then you can send your homebrew to port 9021 (see the code’s makefile)
There aren’t technically any homebrew that I know of for the PS5 yet, but John has included a test homebrew with his code for people to test.
